History of the Windegg residence
A home through the centuries
In the walls of our manor house you can hear the whispering of voices long gone.

From residential tower to classicist building
The origins of the manor house lie in a medieval residential tower that once belonged to the Lords of Rottenburg. Its foundation walls are still preserved in the building today and tell of a bygone era.
Around 1390, the tower became the property of the Lords of Reinisch, before it was extended in 1817 under Johann Nepomuk von Schasser to become a classicist, three-storey building. Decorative paintings in the great hall still bear witness to the rich history of the manor house.
Renovation
In 1962, the Windegg residence was taken over by Ignaz Brigl, our father and grandfather. He had it professionally restored with great dedication in 1998. Since then, the residence has shone in new splendour while retaining its historic charm, transporting guests and visitors back to another time.

The name
Can you hear the wind whistling? "Windegg" means "windy corner" - and on some days, our mountain hut lives up to its name. Then the wind picks up from the valley, sweeps over Lake Kaltern, the vineyards and meadows, before blowing around our residence.
