The perfect time of year for a break in South Tyrol
When nature awakens, the vineyards glow in fresh green and the first warm rays of sunshine bathe the landscape in golden light, one of the most beautiful times of the year begins in Kaltern.
Spring is the ideal time of year to discover the region around Lake Kaltern - with mild temperatures, impressive nature and countless opportunities for active holidaymakers and connoisseurs. Here are some activities that will make your spring holiday in Kaltern unforgettable.
1. hiking between vineyards and mountain peaks
There is hardly a better time of year for a hike than spring: the temperatures are pleasant, nature is in bloom and the hiking trails are still pleasantly quiet. A tour through the Rastenbachklamm gorge is particularly recommended - an impressive gorge in which you pass small waterfalls and ancient ruins over bridges and footbridges.
If you are looking for a more leisurely route, you can walk along the Peace Trail between Kaltern and Tramin or take a hike through the gentle vineyards - including fantastic views of Lake Kaltern.

2. cycling and e-biking through the blossoming landscape
Whether on a racing bike, mountain bike or relaxed on an e-bike - Kaltern offers a variety of cycle paths that are perfect for spring. The route along the South Tyrolean Wine Road is particularly beautiful, leading through picturesque wine villages and blossoming apple orchards.
For sporty cyclists, a tour up the Mendel Pass, Caldaro's local mountain, is well worthwhile. Those who prefer a more leisurely ride can take the Mendelbahn cable car to the top and explore the area from there.
We provide 2 mountain bikes per flat - additional bikes and e-bikes can be hired from the tourist office and from the bike hire shop on Rottenburgerplatz.
3. enjoy the first wine tasting of the year
Spring in Kaltern also means the start of the new wine season! The first rays of sunshine invite you to take a seat on our terrace and taste the wines of the new vintage. We are also happy to guide you through the vineyards and tell you more about grape varieties, terroir and South Tyrolean viticulture. Our wine tastings can be booked for groups of 15 or more - please contact us for more information!

4. relaxation on Lake Kaltern
Even if the bathing season hasn't quite started yet, Lake Kaltern offers a fantastic backdrop for a relaxing walk or a picnic on the shore in spring. If you prefer something more active, you can hire a SUP board or a pedalo and experience the lake from a completely new perspective.
5. enjoy culinary spring highlights
After a day full of adventures, it's important not to miss out on indulgence - and spring also brings some culinary highlights with it. Dishes with fresh asparagus, wild herbs and, of course, classic South Tyrolean speck are particularly popular.
A tip for gourmets: many restaurants in Kaltern offer special menus with seasonal specialities in spring, which harmonise perfectly with the fresh white wines of our region.
Whether you are an active holidaymaker, wine lover or connoisseur - spring is the perfect time to discover Kaltern in all its diversity. If you want to see nature awaken, enjoy the first warm rays of sunshine and make the most of the tranquillity of the early season, now is the right time.
